AFC West End lost a third consecutive game after losing by the odd goal in five in a back and forth encounter with Trent Valley at Yarborough Leisure Centre. The AFC lineup featured five changes, the most important seeing captain Ady Gray return to defense to replace Matt Starbuck who missed out through illness. Also recalled were Joe Harper, Dave Capps and Jack McDonnell whilst Tim Fenny made his debut following his transfer from Witham FC. Continue Reading

Jerusalem Divided
The Beers had reason to celebrate at last having notched their first league point in five games with a keenly contested draw at FVA Jerusalem Res. Despite taking just a bare eleven across Lincoln for the game West End acquitted themselves well on a bobbly pitch and took the lead after quarter of an hour as James Dewhurst managed to break into the box and though his first effort was saved he turned it in at the second attempt for a 1-0 lead. Cherry Picked
After a two week break AFC West End returned to action as a bare, and barely sober, eleven took to the field away at Cherry Willingham. Despite beginning with one of the worst kick-offs ever undertaken courtesy of Dan Hill, the Beers managed to take the lead. A high hanging cross from James Dewhurst was dropped by the home ‘keeper and Jack McDonnell was on hand to poke the ball home. Sadly though that was to be as good as it got for West End, as Cherry came back into the match emphatically with three first-half goals. Continue Reading
Fivey From The Ivy
As is becoming something of habit West End were down to the bare bones once more, the squad bolstered at the last minute with the return of old boy Phil Lodge to take up the role of twelfth man. When West End hosted Ivy Tavern last season their ‘fans’ were suitably lagered up and they weren’t about to let a morning kick-off get in the way of their alcohol consumption. As West End took to the field they were greeted by Ivy’s support already tucking into a crate of Carlsberg. The league must have taken this into consideration when appointing the referee as before the teams had even left the changing rooms he had made it known to both sides that he would tolerate any swearing directed at him. A man as wise as he was brave. Continue Reading
Gone for a Burton
Further disappointment for AFC West End, as the Beers rocked by unavailability and injury slipped to a second successive 3-2 defeat in Division Three. This week’s defeat was to be arguably more frustrating than last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to league leaders FVA Jerusalem as West End actually led Burtons 2-0 at the break. However, they failed to replicate their football in the second half and were undone by a second half comeback on a pitch where the club has never really enjoyed much luck in the their existence. West End Snookered by Late Rileys Penalty
Back on home divots West End played host to unbeaten league leaders Dynamo Rileys and had two great opportunities to open the scoring. Firstly Dan Hill raced clear beyond the back four to hit a firm low shot across goal, only for the Rileys keeper to produce an excellent stop, whilst Jamie Lawrence met the same fate as he too got through one-on-one. At the other end two smart saves from Christian Sales were needed to maintain parity. It was West End who broke the deadlock as Glen Wilson won a free-kick on the edge of the box and Liam Tonks drilled it low into the corner of the net for a half-time lead. Continue Reading
Comeback Makes it Four From Four for the Beers
After disappointment in the Jock Mitchell Trophy last week AFC West End returned to league action as AFC Harpars came to the West Common. West End started the brighter side and took a deserved lead quarter of an hour into the game as Jamie Lawrence flicked the ball into the path of Dave Capps, and Cappsy finished well to open the scoring. West End had chances to add to their lead with Lawrence, Jack McDonnell and Glen Wlson all going close to doubling the advantage. Instead West End had to pay for missed chances as they went into the break all square. Harpars’ two forwards combined with a beautifully timed pass and well taken finish to make it 1-1 ten minutes before half-time. Continue Reading
Royal Mail Deliver Third Defeat
West End slipped to a disappointing third defeat in a row against Royal Mail Sports. An impressive Royal Mail side set out their stall early passing the ball comfortably and giving West End the run-around. Inevitably the visitors took the lead and looked comfortable until about half-way through the second half when West End suddenly shifted up a gear and began searching for an equaliser.
