AFC West End have been handed a home match against familiar foes to kick-off the new season. The Lincoln Sunday Football League fixtures released today have given West End a home game against Dynamo Varsity to begin the new campaign. However, The Beers will have to wait longer than most to sink their teeth into the 2009/2010 season as they have no match scheduled for the opening day of Sunday 6th September and instead will have to wait until the 13th before hosting Dynamo on the West Common. The Lincoln Sunday Football League announced its divisional structure for the 2009/2010 season today with a major shock for The Beers. Despite finishing outside the Division 5 promotion spots in third place, a swathe of new teams meant that the West End committee were expecting to move up a division for the new season. As sure as day follows night, a new season for AFC West End will always mean a new man at the helm. After the demise of former co-tennats Tower Athletic and the eternally misspelt NTS Independente West End will now have Pitch 3 to themselves, hopefully ensuring horrific bobble free football ’til at least late September.
After acheiving their most successful ever season on the pitch West End have followed up third place in Division 5 with their first ever trophy. At the Sunday League AGM this week AFC West End club secretary Glen Wilson saw his off the field efforts rewarded as he was named as Secretary of the Year for the entire league. Sadly there was no time at the AGM for an acceptance speech, but an abridged version complete with accompanying power point presentation is available on request.
