Comeback Makes it Four From Four for the Beers

After disappointment in the Jock Mitchell Trophy last week AFC West End returned to league action as AFC Harpars came to the West Common. West End started the brighter side and took a deserved lead quarter of an hour into the game as Jamie Lawrence flicked the ball into the path of Dave Capps, and Cappsy finished well to open the scoring. West End had chances to add to their lead with Lawrence, Jack McDonnell and Glen Wlson all going close to doubling the advantage. Instead West End had to pay for missed chances as they went into the break all square. West End Exit Cup By Odd Goal in Nine

AFC West End went into this cup match against Market Rasen optimistic of repeating their giant-killing act of two years ago. That outcome, if not the score-line, seemed on the cards again as the Beers started the brighter of the two teams and went into an early lead as Jamie Lawrence broke through to net his eighth goal of the season. Although West End were playing the better football Market Rasen were much more direct in the final third, and they drew level within minutes as a long throw was unfortunately flicked into his own net by Rich Brown. West End Lord it Over Tennyson

Three wins from three for everyone’s favourite Sunday League team, despite a significant hangover based cloud in the West End dressing room pre-match. Tennsyon appeared set to continue where their previous incarnation as Turks Head had left off with a cynical trip on Joe Harper in the opening minutes, but thankfully the twelve year old ref took control and West End were able to assert themselves on the game. West End Bridge Trent to Continue Winning Run

With a depleted squad owing to the Lloyds element playing in a staff tournament in Leeds it was to a long hard slog of a match for ‘the Beers as they secured a second straight win. Sturdy defence from AFC West End restricted Trent Valley to efforts from distance throughout the match, all of which were dealt with comfortably by ‘keeper Christian Sales. At the other end West End were looking strong on the break; Sam McDonnell testing the Trent keeper in the opening fifteen minutes and Glen Wilson striking the bar with a curling effort. Moment of the first half arguably belongs to James Dewhurst for a glorious yet unnecessary through ball to Dave Capps played with one foot behind the other. Continue Reading
