Had this been earlier in the season this match probably would never have taken place, however on a mud heavy Common pitch West End adjusted to the conditions much better than Navenby . Rich Dungworth adjusted better than most as he scored a club match record six goals, his double hat-trick ensuring a comfortable 7-2 win, with Phil Lodge grabbing the other AFC goal.
Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Alec Waby; Stephen Pearce, Mike Smith, Glen Wilson, Lee Matsell; Dave Capps, John Moore, Dave Carver, Phil Lodge; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth
Substitute: Jack Woodlock
West End’s unbeaten 2007 came to an end at the hands of the league leaders but pride can be taken from a spirited performance in which AFC held the advantage for much of the second half. As expected AFC Hykeham took the lead, but a goal from Rich Dungworth brought West End level midway through the half, only for the home side to move 2-1 in front at the break. In the second half West End defied the odds and goals from Dave Capps and Gav Sumner put ‘the Beers’ in front. Some fine saves from Alec Waby helped protect the lead but Hykeham eventually found their way past the West End keeper with two late goals giving them a 4-3 win.
Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Alec Waby; Dan Cain, Shaun Hepple, Mike Smith, Stephen Pearce; Dave Capps, Gav Sumner, Glen Wilson, Jonny Dyas; Lee Matsell, Rich Dungworth
Substitute: Sam McDonnell
West End’s fifth meeting with Monks Road in two seasons proved another close affair, but despite Monks Road’s lowly league position AFC were still unable to record a first competitive win over their opponents. Instead honours were shared with a Rich Dungworth goal helping West End to a 1-1 draw.
