West End’s pre-season comes to an end with a match against Division Six Inter FC on the West Common. However, kick-off is delayed due to John Moore’s failure to turn up with the kit after a bizarre drunken guinea pig related incident. Eventually dressed West End manage to secure an unlikely 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Andy Kirk turning in a long throw, and a breakaway goal from Dave Capps.

A midweek road trip saw West End take on Division Six side AFC Harpars at Horncastle. In control from the start West End ran in six goals, two for Rich Dungworth and one each for Sam McDonnell, Andy Kirk, Glen Wilson and trialist Phil completing the rout. A comprehensive victory was aided by Alec Waby’s determination to keep a clean sheet.

Another friendly against higher league opposition brought West End’s highest ever defeat with FC Rockstar dominating the first half and set-pieces in particular to lead 6-0 at the break. In the second half West End settled themselves and gained composure enough to hold their opponents to a 7-1 defeat, with Lee Matsell on target for West End.

West End’s second outing of pre-season came against another side promoted from division six to five for the coming season. An unfamiliar West End side struggled early on and despite a Rich Dungworth goal trailed 2-1 in the second half. However, late goals from Dungworth and Sam McDonnell helped bring a turnaround for an unexpected 3-2 win.

Dunston is the neutral venue for this first pre-season fixture for West End against the impressive Plough Athletic of Division Three. As well as the quality of the opposition, the mid-afternoon heat offered an additional unwanted early season test to West End, still the side acquitted themselves, with trialist Paul Cody grabbing two goals in an encouraging 5-3 defeat.
