De Wint Get De Win

Two games in three days and both against the division’s top two sides proved a step too far for West End, but for the second time this season they showed their worth against the league leaders De Wint. West End’s 3-1 win at De Wint in January remains the top club’s only defeat and the beers came as close as anyone to matching that. Unfortunately though it was the physical De Wint side who prevailed, but they needed a Chris Denman own goal to win it 1-0.

West End Unable to Deliver at Royal Mail

West End’s first foray into midweek football ended in disappointment with a narrow defeat at Sobraon. Royal Mail Sports sit second in the table but againWest End proved they are more than a match for the division’s top sides, going down by a single goal, a free-kick from the edge of the box that went under the feet of goalkeeper Adam Bierton.

Unbeaten Run Falls at Home to Inter

West End finally faced Inter FC, the only team they had yet to play in this season’s league programme. The home side were without Shaun Hepple, Matty Evans and Joe Harper giving starts to Jonny Dyas, Liam Phelan and Liam Collinwood. West End’s unfamiliar line-up saw them out of sorts in the first few minutes and they fell behind when an Inter forward found himself with a great deal of space on the edge of the box and placed a well hit shot passed Adam Bierton. With West End behind the tempo heightened; Chris Dewey was accused by the opposition of dangerous play, before being taken down from behind minutes later only to be accused of diving. BBH Frustrate Out of Sorts West End

West End faced BBH for the first time this season, travelling approximately twenty yards for an away local derby. West End were forced into a surprise change before the game with keeper Adam Bierton pulling a Sol Campbell and going AWOL. Glen Wilson took over in goal and put in a comfortable performance. Potterhanworth Dominated by Unchallenged West End

After the disappointment of last week’s cup exit West End returned to league action at home to bottom of the league Potterhanworth. West End welcomed back Joe Harper to the midfield but Matty (vote) Evans was missing due to illness. The conditions played a big part in the first half; Potterhanworth pushed West End back as the home side struggled early on against the wind and the visitors nearly took a shock lead only to be denied by a goal-line clearance just in the nick of time. Instead it was West End who opened the scoring against the run of play when Chris Dewey and Marcus Tester’s combined efforts forced the ball over the line, Tester getting the last touch to score his fifth goal of the season.
