West End Run Wragged
A five goal first half storm from division five high-flyers Wragby FC brought an emphatic end to AFC West End’s Ron Eaglen Challenge Cup campaign. On an icy pitch a patched up West End side were unable to deal with Wragby’s strength at set pieces. The game saw debuts for Danny Bierton and Liam Phelan in a side that lacked the fluidity shown recently by the regular eleven. However, West End showed great strength in the second half coming out strongly, competing and making chances. The visitors’ pressure paid dividends when Liam Phelan managed to neatly direct a cross from the left hand side past the Wragby keeper for his first goal in West End colours. Wragby restored their five-goal cushion with a neatly taken finish before Sam McDonnell reduced the deficit again for West End after taking advantage of sloppy defending in the Wragby box. West End bowed out of the cup losing 6-2 but could hold their heads high after a spirited second half performance.
